A timely reminder for conveyancers

CONVEYANCERS working long hours, juggling complex legal files – frequently alone – should take today as a reminder to check-in.

That’s the view of Australian Conveyancer whose journalists have listened to numerous stories of those time-pressed practitioners almost at the end of their tether.

All corners of the sector are reporting a sense of burnout.

So much so that we published an 18-page special on the subject, with interviews, warning signs and useful tips on coping.

R U OK? Day is an apt reminder that behind every file is a person – and that person might be struggling.

The signs are often subtle: fatigue, cynicism, and a sense of ineffectiveness. As burnout expert Bev Aisbett explained: “You have trouble keeping up without it taking a toll on your wellbeing.”

Industry leaders urge conveyancers to take proactive steps: talk to peers, seek support, and prioritise self-care.

“Pick up the phone and talk to someone,” says AIC NSW chief executive Chris Tyler, adding: “Go and have a coffee with someone, just don’t bottle it up.”

R U OK? Day isn’t just about asking the question. It’s about listening, supporting, and reminding each other that it’s okay to not be okay.

For conveyancers, who often carry the weight of others’ dreams and deadlines, it’s a chance to pause, reflect, and reconnect.

So today, we are backing R U OK?
