State Minister Andrea Michaels to recognise pivotal role of conveyancers.

CYBER threats, evolving VOI demands and new AML reforms are top of the agenda at the South Australia AIC national conference.

The event entitled Risky Business will hear from leading experts from AUSTRAC, the Real Estate Institute as well as getting an update on the recent Senate hearing into competition in eConveyancing.

MP Andrea Michaels, Minister for Small and Family Business and for Consumer and Business Affairs will also make an address recognising the ‘pivotal role conveyancers play in South Australia’s economy’.

AICSA chief executive Carmel Noon said: “Risk is now a permanent part of the conveyancing landscape.

“Our members are navigating compliance, cyber-security, interoperability, and regulatory change all at once.

“This year’s program has been designed to assist them with the knowledge to manage that risk while also embracing new opportunities.

“This year’s conference is about preparing for the future—facing the risks head-on while also looking at how we can diversify and strengthen the profession.

“It’s a pivotal time for conveyancing, and we’re proud to bring together such a strong line-up of speakers, panels, and industry leaders.”

Ashlea McKenzie, Director of Policy Reform at AUSTRAC, who played a leading role in developing the new AML/CTF Rules framework, working with the Attorney-General’s Department on the forthcoming reforms, will give a keynote speech as well as taking part in a panel discussion.

A new Registrar-General’s award is also part of the two-day event in Adelaide later this month.

“We are thrilled that the Awards have grown to the point where they deserve their own evening,” AICSA President Matthew Kelly said.

“Separating the Awards Dinner from the conference allows us to celebrate our members’ achievements in style while ensuring the conference program remains fully focused on professional development.”
