Pre-drawn $1 a time house plans unveiled to cut red tape
Pre-approved house plans could be ready for construction in 10 days, in what NSW government hopes will ignite sluggish planning system.

THE NSW Government has released its Housing Pattern Book, with eight low-rise, modest and affordable designs.
For the next six months, each plan is available for anyone to use for just one dollar.
State Planning Minister Paul Scully says the pattern book aims to speed up delivery of new homes.
“They look great, they’re simple and cost-effective,” he said. “We’re accelerating these designs so those wishing to build can get moving.”
“The NSW Housing Pattern Book takes the guesswork and the delay out of home building.”
The patterns, mostly semi-detached or terrace homes, are the work of eight architectural firms from NSW, Victoria and Western Australia.
They include technical drawings, material lists, and specifications meant to speed up planning approval.
Each is energy efficient, with flexible layouts and suggestions for landscaping designs.
They can be used across NSW where these low and mid-rise housing types are already permitted with consent.

After the six-month $1 discount period, the price will move to $1,000 per pattern. But still cheap compared to the average $20,000 cost of architectural home plans.
“This is a practical step to make the housing system fairer and make sure NSW remains a place where the next generation can afford to live and thrive,” Premier Chris Minns said.
More designs for mid-rise housing will be launched later this year.
