AFL great Luke Darcy has shared how a few simple daily habits can make a huge difference in helping conveyancers show up as their best selves.

Darcy – who played over 200 games for the Western Bulldogs before becoming a respected media identity and now co-founder of a celebrated coaching firm – was keynote speaker at Australian Conveyancer magazine’s inaugural ‘Beyond Conveyancing’ event in Melbourne on Wednesday.

Speaking to over 100 industry professionals, he emphasised the importance of “filling your own cup” to better support others.

He referenced US basketball coach Mike Dunlap and Hal Elrod’s book ‘The Miracle Morning’, which promotes six life-transforming daily habits: meditation, affirmations, visualisation, exercise, reading and scribing.

“You would set yourself up in a way that would allow you to live a pretty extraordinary life,” Darcy explained.

Darcy also touched on the changing face of leadership from a more brutal style to one grounded in empathy and connection.

“The people we see around the globe in high pressure roles have got more empathy than ever before, more connection to people than ever before.

“They understand people’s families more. It’s genuine and authentic. And then inevitably, when you need to have a difficult conversation, because we all do, it’s an easier thing,” he added.

Described as The Australian Conveyancer brand in 3D, the forum aimed to bring top-line thinking to firms of all sizes.

Other speakers included business coach turned conveyancer Trent Taylor, who shared how he rebuilt and grew his Victorian practice, and branding expert Grazina Fechner who offered tips to help firms stand out.

triSearch CEO Chris Gibbs said the event hit the mark by bringing like-minded professionals together in a supportive, collaborative space.

“The benchmark for the success of the event today is that each of you will be able to weave a handful of tips and techniques into your business from tomorrow,” he said.

“In conversations I’ve had with folks throughout the day, I believe we’ve gone some way into delivering against that goal.”
