More money allotted for social housing

A HOST of Western Australian community housing providers have received a share in almost $900,000 to grow and deliver more social homes.

The money to 19 CHPs comes through round one of the Community Housing Futures WA Business Advisory Grants program.

The grants support community housing providers to expand their housing services, such as tenancy support programs or refine governance practices.

These grants are administered by Shelter WA and the program has been supported by a $6 million investment from the Western Australian government in early 2026.

Shelter WA is the peak body for community housing and homelessness in Western Australia and currently represents 84 members across the sector.

The government has invested a record $10.8 billion in housing measures since 2021, delivering more than 4300 social homes in that time.

“Our government’s partnership with community housing providers ensures the delivery and management of thousands of social and affordable homes for key workers or people on a low income,” said John Carey, housing and works minister.

“These grants will support the expanded capacity and sustainability of 19 CHPs, enabling the delivery of more homes and crucial services that support the tenancies of vulnerable Western Australians.”

Shelter WA CEO Kath Snell said: “This program demonstrates the government’s commitment to working in partnership with WA’s community housing sector to tackle our state’s housing challenges.”
