Privacy policy

How we collect, use, store and disclose your personal information. This policy is governed by the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Who we are

"Australian Conveyancer", "we", "us" and "our" refers to Australian Conveyancer, a digital news publication. For privacy matters contact editor@australianconveyancer.com.au.

Information we collect

  • Email address. When you subscribe to the Weekly Brief or another newsletter.
  • Usage information. Pages visited, articles read, time on site, device type, approximate location (city level via IP). Collected via Vercel Analytics in aggregate, anonymised form. We don't track you across the wider web.
  • Information you give us. When you contact the newsroom, complain about coverage, submit a tip, or apply for a role, we store the information you send us.

How we use your information

  • To send the newsletters you've subscribed to.
  • To respond to your enquiries, complaints, and tips.
  • To understand which stories engage readers (in aggregate).
  • To improve site performance and security.

Third parties

We share data with the following service providers:

  • Mailchimp. Newsletter delivery.
  • Vercel. Site hosting and analytics.
  • Storyblok. Content management.

These providers are bound by their own privacy policies and use the information only to provide their service to us. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for marketing.

Cookies

We use a minimal set of strictly necessary cookies to make the site function (for example, to remember if you've dismissed the newsletter banner). We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

Data security

We use industry-standard measures to protect personal information, including TLS encryption in transit, restricted access in our CMS, and a regularly-audited list of authorised staff. No system is perfectly secure; we'll notify affected users promptly if we discover a breach.

Data retention

We retain newsletter subscriber data for as long as you remain subscribed. Editorial correspondence is retained according to our records-management policy (typically seven years). You can request earlier deletion by contacting us.

Children

Our content is intended for an adult professional audience. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.

Changes to this policy

Material changes to this policy will be announced in a Weekly Brief edition and noted at the top of this page. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change.

Complaints

If you have a privacy concern, contact us first. If you're not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
