PRACTITIONERS can now access eConveyancing in Tasmania after a $2 million boost from the state government.

The move, which brings Tasmania in line with the eastern states, has been welcomed by the island’s Australian Institute of Conveyancers branch.

Minister for Parks Nick Duigan announced the switch to electronic conveyancing, declaring it a new milestone, with Tasmanians able to electronically transfer titles for most sales and purchases of real estate.

The new features follow an initial August 2024 rollout allowing Tasmanians to submit mortgages and discharges of mortgages, he said.

“The days of having to exchange paper cheques between banks and conveyancers in Tasmania is now a thing of the past,” Minister Duigan said.

“Electronic conveyancing is resulting in better security, more convenience, and faster turnaround times for parties using the system.

“Reducing red tape and making Tasmania the best place to invest, grow and do business is what our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is all about.

“The Tasmanian Government is proud to have invested $2 million into the switch to electronic conveyancing, an important milestone in the history of the Land Titles Office.”

AIC President Emmi Balmer said: “We are very excited in Tasmania for the introduction of electronic settlements.  This has been a long time coming.”

An Electronic Lodgement Network Operator (ELNO) facilitates the transaction process, with PEXA  the current approved ELNO in Tasmania.
